On the heels of a disappointing turnout by Blacks at the primary election, the release of the trailer of the highly anticipated historical film “Selma”– that chronicles the pivotal three-month period in 1965, when Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. led a dangerous campaign to secure equal voting rights— begs the question, have we forgotten the struggle in modern times?

“Selma” couldn’t come at a more perfect time as we approach the 50th anniversary of the Voting Rights Act of 1965. The trailer replenishes memories that may of the torment Blacks faced leading up to the iconic march from Selma to Montgomery.
